Technology English in Context: Vocabulary Practice and Useful Expressions

Vocabulary becomes useful when you can retrieve it inside a sentence, not only when you recognize it in a list. This practice lesson turns technology vocabulary into active English.

From Word to Expression

Pattern Example Why it matters
device use device in a complete sentence a piece of electronic equipment
software use software in a complete sentence programs used by a computer or device
update use update in a complete sentence a newer version or improvement
privacy use privacy in a complete sentence control over personal information
download use download in a complete sentence copy data from the internet to a device
connection use connection in a complete sentence a link to a network or service

Build a Mini-Context

Choose four words from the table and connect them in a short scenario. Keep the language simple enough that you can focus on using the target words accurately. Then read the scenario aloud once or twice to strengthen spoken retrieval.

Avoid These Vocabulary Problems

  • Do not force a word into a sentence if you are unsure how it combines with other words.
  • Do not memorize only a translation; connect the word to an English definition and example.
  • Do not collect too many new words at once. A smaller set used repeatedly is more valuable.
  • Review vocabulary over several days instead of doing one long session.

Practice Routine

  1. Read the target word and explain it without looking at the definition.
  2. Say one common phrase that contains the word.
  3. Create an original sentence.
  4. Use the word again later in a different sentence or conversation.
